Dryer Balls…the perfect union with Eco-Balls

A while back, we covered Eco-Balls, the lovely no-soap laundry gadget. I just found Dryer Balls, which cut down on drying time by 25% and therefore energy use by 25%.

Two thoughts. I lived in the UK for a couple of years and learned that I don’t really need to dry that much at all, except sheets and towels. Everything else is pretty good to go using the drying rack = ZERO energy drying. Second, couldn’t you use a tennis ball or something?

Yeah, we have these to help out with the uber-thick cotton diapers we dry so frequently. I’m not entirely convinced they work, but if it can save us some energy, I’m all for trying!

Hrmm.. hasn’t this been tried before ? -. Testing of laundry balls/disks

Herm. That was 10 years ago. I wonder what’s different about the Eco-Balls of today that are getting so much good press? Even Treehugger did a post about them:

(Although admitting to not knowing how they worked).

We had some dubious chemical comments on the eco-balls post, but the Straight Dope article did find they kind of worked?

The real news, it seems, is that some Dryer Balls are made of PVC and totally toxic (Nellie’s brand according to, again, Treehugger). Might not want to put those near your baby’s butt!
