Eva Amsen

Eva is in the fifth year of her Biochemistry PhD at University of Toronto but her heart is in science communication and education. She volunteers for Let’s Talk Science and Kids Science, and was a Toronto city-wide science fair judge. She edits Hypothesis, a graduate student run, peer reviewed journal at U of T that publishes original research and discussion pieces from around the world. She blogs at Eastern Blot where she talks a lot about science in culture and art. Although she specializes in cell biology, Eva’s scientific interests are all over the place, including a minor obsession with network science. Sometimes she will approach unsuspecting friends with a seemingly pop-culture related mention of the Kevin Bacon game and talk her way into protein interactions. Eva plays violin, talks to animals, ignores her chores, loves snow and coffee a lot, and regrets having to waste a third of her life sleeping. And yes, at the tender age of nine she fancied herself a pirate.
