Mike Gretes

Mike Gretes is an apprentice crystallographer and molecular biologist at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Here he keeps on trying to take atomic-scale images of antibiotic resistance factors in evil Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. In attempts to outwit these crafty bugs.

Should he one day overcome his graduate thesis, he hopes to rappel down from the ivory tower to teach, write, and talk Science. To the masses and the power brokers alike. Preferably for a living. Failing this, he will disappear to a remote island in the South Pacific to pursue ambiguously ethical and inherently unfundable research.

Aside from labouring in the data mines, Mike enjoys words, bicycles, vegans, and irony. This is his first foray into the world of pop. sci. writing.
