Gather around, nerds. It’s time to watch TV. That’s because PBS is running what they are calling an experiment (we’ll be the judges!) and WE get to, um, be the judges. PBS is considering three series for development: “Wired Science” (aired January 3), “Science Investigators” (airing January 10), and “22nd Century” (airing January 17th). The winner will get to produce 10 new episodes in the fall of 2007.
First up:“Wired Science.” The fast-paced show (based on the namesake magazine) makes science look like super-cool fun and scientists like well-adjusted, socially able human beings. The pilot episode included quirky retro footage of ‘rocket belts,’ an interview with a billionaire Ph.D. ‘dropout’ and a chic geek in tight black pants who takes circular saw to a plasma TV (there is a God!).
According to press releases, the winner will be based partly on viewer feedback. Watch the shows on PBS (or online or via free podcast) and come back to Inkling to see who we think should get the green light in the battle for GeekTV!
Check out the PBS science site for more info. Watch the pilots online: WiredScience, ScienceInvestigators and 22nd Century. Or click on PBS on the iTunes podcast homepage.
